About the Louisiana Attorney General's Opinions

When questions arise pertaining to a matter of state law, the Attorney General can render a written legal opinion for clarification. The Attorney General can only accept requests from the governor, other elected and appointed state officers, the members of the Legislature, state departments, state boards, state commissions or state officers, district attorneys, and governing authorities of a local political subdivision with submission of a resolution adopted by the governing authority. Written legal opinions are case-specific and are intended to be used and interpreted by those who requested it.
